Random Post - Game of Thrones
For the past few years I have been shamed endlessly by my friends, family, and to an extent society as a whole for refusing to watch Game of Thrones. Despite their constant attempts to talk me into starting the series, I had my reasons against it. Personally, I didn't think that it was a show that I would be interested in due to the fact that I have never had much interest in shows that I considered mythological. For example, I have never been able to make it through a full Lord of the Rings movie and I always assumed that that meant that I wouldn't be able to make it through even just a single Game of Thrones of episode. In addition to that, the length of each episode and the overall length of the series as a whole was very intimidating. The thought of watching 70 full hours worth of episodes of a single show was a commitment that I didn't feel ready to make and even though everyone and their mother kept preaching that it's the best show ever, I had my doubts.
While my doubts were strong and my commitment level was low, another trait of mine eventually won me over and that is FOMO, or fear of missing out. I had no trouble refusing to watch the show when I was just hearing about it from my friends and family but that's before it really began to take over society. Whether it was TV commercials, podcasts, memes, or any other form of content, the whole world seemed to be talking about Game of Thrones and it finally got to a point where I had no choice. The fear of missing out on the hysteria when the final season comes out in April was too much as I had to begin my mission of watching Game of Thrones.
At the time that I am writing this, I have just completed the 2nd episode of season 3 and I can fully admit that I was an idiot for not watching sooner. I was warned that the first 2 seasons were "slow and at times boring" from multiple people and that's something I can confirm. However, once I got to around the 6th episode of season 2 I knew that I was hooked. I can admit that I'm definitely still confused on who everyone is and what the goal of each character is since all of the names are similar and difficult but I'm slowly starting to get more accustomed to them. I'm definitely looking forward to binging it at an insane pace these next couple of months in order to be caught up for the premiere of season 8 and am happy that I finally got talked into starting this masterpiece.

I love Game of Thrones as well! I started after season 3 came out and am ashamed to admit that I finished all 3 seasons during my finals week. Luckily, finals were easier in high school. I still have no idea whats going on half the time but still enjoying it.

I also struggled with deciding whether to start Game of Thrones or not after hearing about my brothers and friends rave about it for hours on end. However, because I don't like violence that much, and stupidly didn't give it my full attention in the beginning, I found myself lost and disinterested after the first season. Maybe I'll restart it the right way again!

ReplyDeleteI personally loved GOT, but once I started watching Vikings I got bored so I stopped. However, it is a really great fantasy show and I enjoyed it while I watched it. Who knows, maybe I'll finish it someday.
ReplyDeleteAlso, get a box of tissues and chocolate or ice cream for S3E9.
Long live Jon Snow.
I JUST STARTED WATCHING two weeks ago and wow, I have the same exact feelings you do! I'm a couple episodes into season two and still trying to sort out characters' names and motivations, but that doesn't keep me from watching religiously. Speaking of, time to go watch an episode now.
