World We Dare To Imagine - Part 3

The Christian Gange Foundation for the Education of Underprivileged Kids

Growing up I was blessed to live under a roof with two parents who made enough money to live in an area with great schools taught by great teachers. I give a lot of credit to the situation I was given for why I ended up going to such a prestigious university in USC. Having this upbringing has without a doubt positioned me to have a successful career with an above average starting salary and while I could not be more grateful to have been put in this position, it's impossible for me to not feel a little bit guilty about it. The reason I am guilty is because there are many kids and young adults out there who could have every bit of, if not more, intelligence than I do but were born in rough neighborhoods and forced to go to bad schools taught by bad teachers. Since they had a bad education they are starting their professional lives at a disadvantage and while I have benefitted off of that, it still does not feel right to me. The Christian Gange Foundation for the Education of Underprivileged Kids is here to make sure that the next generation of kids are all given a proper education and therefore a fair chance to be successful in their future lives.

What the organization intends to do is simple. It is going to make sure that top level teachers are being placed in schools that were previously never given that luxury. Like I said in the previous paragraph, I owe so much of the intelligence that I believe that I have to the teacher who taught me from kindergarten all the way through high school. The problem is that schools in rougher areas don't have the resources to provide their students with the top education and no high level teacher will take a pay cut to go to one of these areas. This organization is going to raise money to put into these schools but unlike other organizations that just provide money, this one will provide quality teachers who will be incentivized with a higher salary and will make sure that every kid is given an equal opportunity for future success. I am passionate about this because I have seen what the benefits of having a great education can do for a career and I can't help but think about how different my life would be if I wasn't blessed with the education I was blessed with.

Anima Mundi Development Partners should support my organization not only because it's the right thing to do but also because there could be some incentive for them as well. If everything goes according to plan, students who are at schools that my organization supports will amount to huge things in their future and AMDP could reap the benefits of that. Everyone should inherently agree that giving kids a good education is a good thing to do but AMDP could very well be shaping the greatest generation the country has ever seen with their support and that benefits them as a company as well.

Book Post 1: My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem

I chose to read the book titled My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem. I chose this book among our three options because I was very interested in reading about Steinem's experiences on the road. I've never been very interested in either science or farming but have always enjoyed reading about the real life experiences of people who have made in difference in the world and that made this book an obvious choice for me. In addition to being interested in her life experiences, I also love to travel and it's something that I hope to continue to do later in life and I'm hoping to get some added motivation to travel and additional travel ideas from reading this book. I'm a strong advocate that life is much more about experiences than material goods and I have a strong feeling that Steinem shares that belief with me as well. After reading the prologue for this book I can confidently say that choosing this book was the right choice for me. The prologue was a brief st...

World We Dare to Imagine - Part 1

World We Dare to Imagine - Part 1 With there being so many issues in our world, it's virtually impossible to narrow down the one that is the most important. However, in order to make the world a better place, I believe that we must first focus on the youth and the future of our planet. It is a known fact that there are underprivileged kids all over the world that not only don't have the ability to get a proper education, but also don't even have the basic necessities to live. If I had the financial means to give back, I would be creating ways to help underprivileged kids who don't have access to a proper education get this education. Not only do I believe this will help these kids have a better future, but it will also help the world as a whole. In the U.S. we have many trade partners and many countries that we do business with. If we were to educate kids in the poverty stricken countries of Africa for example who could grow up and provide things that will benefit ...

Born on Third Base - Black Wealth, Brown Wealth, White Wealth

Born on Third Base Blog             I was assigned to read the chapter, “Black Wealth, Brown Wealth, White Wealth” of Born on Third Base and the chapter focused on the differences in wages made by white people vs black people. The chapter was split into three separate sections with the first one titled The State of the Dream. In that section it discussed how black people under the age of 35 make 75 cents to the dollar of what white people in that same age group make. It went on to mention that while the majority of Americans suffered from the 2008 recession but that white people were able to recover much quicker than black people. While I’m not surprised about these facts, I hate to admit that I have never thought about this issue. The gender wage gap is something that is talked about so much, and for good reason, that I think it caused people like me to not realize that there is also an issue in wages between...
